The Giraffe

Did you know that giraffes are the tallest animal in the world? They are herbivores that come from Africa, where they roam in groups called towers. Each subspecies of giraffe has a unique pattern of spots which helps camouflage them from predators.

The Penguin

Although penguins typically live where it is cold, none live at the north pole. Of the 17 species of penguins, all live in the southern hemisphere of our planet. They are flightless birds that have adapted their flappers to help them swim in water to find food.

The Kangaroo

Kangaroos are herbivores that live in Australia and nearby islands. They live in groups called "mobs" to protect each other from danger. Female kangaroos have a pouch on their belly to cradle baby kangaroos (called joeys), which can be the size of a grape when born.

The Elephant

The zoo safari features African elephants, known for their large ears shaped like the continent of Africa. They are herbivores that grow tusks that are similar to human teeth. Their trunks are used to suck up water to spray into their mouths.

The Zebra

Closely related to horses, zebras are herbivores from Africa. They live in groups called herds, which can grow into super herds of over 1,000 zebras. All zebras have unique stripe patterns, which many believe are used to help zebras recognize one another.

The Lion

Known as the king of the jungle, the roar of an adult male lion can be heard 5 miles away! They are the only big cat species with manes, which makes them appear larger. Lions are carnivores that live in the plains and grasslands of Africa.
